VAIL, Colorado — The 24th annual Casual Bicycle Classic is Aug. 22 as a benefit ride for the Eagle County Regional Trails System and the Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation.
ECO Trails is trying to construct a safe and sregional system from Vail Pass to Glenwood Canyon, including a major spur trail to Red Cliff. To date, the Casual Classic has raised over $40,000 toward this project.
Riders will have a 38-mileride beginning in Breckenridge to Frisco to Copper Mountain, followed by the climb up Vail Pass. Then the course coasts to the Bully Ranch at the Sonnenalp Resort, where there will be for a barbecue, drinks, gifts, silent auction, prizes and music.
The emphasis on this ride is fun. As an option, interested cyclists can ride both directions (a total of 76 miles), leaving from the Sonnenalp Resort at 7 a.m.
Advance registration is required by Aug. 20.
A bus to Breckenridge will leave at 8 a.m. from the Sonnenalp. Shuttle service is available to the Vail Pass summit for those not interested in riding the uphill. There will be two shuttles back to Breckenridge after the Bully barbecue. Aid stations are available throughout the course with drinks and snacks.
The entry fee is $75 per adult, $40 per child.

Shoutouts: There's a reason that they call the course Eagle Ranch. Both gross skins were eagles. We don't know how Bullock eagled six because the wind always seems to be howling the wrong way on that hole. And for Cole, he likely will be talking bout that hole-out for quite a while. Kudos to both.
Golfing greatness
We've got three — yes, three — holes-in one to report. What's going on here?
• July 1 — Steve Hall jars one on No. 7 at Vail. Our guess is that the 7-iron was the correct pick for the 162-yard hole. That must have been a fun ride/walk down to the green.
• July 6 — At Eagle Ranch, Gene Kubicki conquered the par-3 11th from 146 yards with a 5-wood. Witnessing this feat of excellence were Richard Matthews, Martin Van Deven and John Hartley.
• July 7 — Ellie Howe, 12, showed us all how easy this game is at the Cordillera Short Course with an ace on No. 3. Miss Howe used a pitching wedge from 71 yards, thank you very much, during a First Tee Tournament.
