Hey, Vail Daily: I read the Daily almost every day, as well as the Eagle Valley Enterprise weekly. There is a pattern that happens nearly every Sunday. The Enterprise comes out on Thursday, and the following Sunday the column called “Mountain Mischief” repeats the law enforcement activity details that were reported in the EVE on Thursday. Since the EVE is a “downvalley paper,” the details reported are always for Dotsero, Gypsum, Eagle and Wolcott. Gosh, it seems that there is no crime east of Wolcott!
The only crime that is reported east of Wolcott is an occasional parking ticket issued along the frontage road to some poor, unsuspecting tourist in Vail.
I think you guys are providing a slanted view of the crime in the county. There is crime in both the upper and lower parts of the valley. Since the “Mountain Mischief” column appears Sunday, the weekend visitor who is likely to read the Vail Daily during their visit has the idea that the western part of Eagle County is some crime-ridden ghetto.
I expect that this is not an intended slant but just the result of tight budgets and lazy fact-gathering and reporting.
