VAIL, Colorado — The final of five free concerts in the heart of Lionshead in Vail, Colorado takes place Thursday at 6 p.m.,
The Clayton Brothers Quintet, long time anchor of the annual Vail Jazz Party, will perform on the Vail Square stage. Grammy award winner bassist/composer/conductor John Clayton will be joined by brother and co-leader Jeff Clayton on saxophone, Terell Stafford on trumpet, Bill Cunliffe on piano and Lewis Nash on drums.
“This is one of our favorite gigs of the entire year,” said John Clayton. “Playing in Vail Square is so cool, where we can create a beautiful blend of the music we love in this stunning setting.”
Joining the Claytons will be the Vail Jazz All-Stars, a dozen high school-aged jazz musicians who will be completing a 10-day intensive workshop in Vail with the Clayton Brothers Quintet.
“We are always amazed at the sheer potential of these young musicians,” said Clayton. “You don't want to miss this unique and special performance.”
The final Jazz at Vail Square concert also kicks off the 15th annual Labor Day weekend party, hosted at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort and in Vail Square, Thursday through Monday, and featuring Ann Hampton Callaway, Jeff Hamilton Trio, Brian Lynch Quintet, Dave Corbus, Joel Frahm, Wycliffe Gordon, Benny Green, Antonio Hart, Tony Monaco and many other great jazz musicians. Tickets start at $45 and are on sale now at www.vailjazz.org.
