Colorado: Sen. Bennet hires Clinton's political director

Bennet is facing a primary challenge from former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff

DENVER — Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet is replacing his chief of staff with the former political director of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Guy Cecil will start work Oct. 19 and the current chief of staff, Jeff Lane, will stay on temporarily to assist Cecil.

Bennet spokesman Michael Amadeo confirmed the hire on Friday.

Bennet is facing a primary challenge from former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff. Six Republicans are also hoping to unseat him, including former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton.

In a written statement, Bennet said that Cecil's strong work ethic, leadership abilities and strategic thinking will be a "real asset". He also praised Lane, who worked as chief of staff for former Sen. Ken Salazar and also worked for former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.
