Kevin Black, assistant state archaeologist
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — Ever wonder what life was like around this valley 600 or 700 years ago?
Kevin Black, assistant state archaeologist, will be discussing that topic at the annual meeting of the Eagle County Historical Society on Monday. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Eagle Town Hall, 200 Broadway.
Black will present a slide show and lecture focusing on the archaeology of Colorado's Western Slope. He has worked as an archeologist since 1976, including a stint with Metcalf Archeology in Eagle in the 1980s, and has conducted inventories and excavations in the western U.S., and particularly in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.
He has served as assistant state archeologist since 1988. His duties include teaching classes for local chapters of the Colorado Archaeological Society and other groups. His recent archeological work includes inventories of Dinosaur Ridge near Morrison and at Pike's Stockade in the San Luis Valley, and salvage excavations of several unmarked human graves throughout the state.
A brief business meeting and election of officers will precede the lecture.
