AVON, Colorado — Town council on Tuesday gave its consent to a water bill increase for Avon homes and businesses, but attached a condition.
The Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority had asked for permission for a $3.91 increase to the monthly water bill for homes 3,000 square feet or smaller, and more for larger homes.
The hike is necessary to pay for some $20 million worth of improvements to the water system, a spokeswoman for the Eagle River Water and Sanitation district had said earlier.
Council agreed to the increase, as long as the funds flow exclusively to debt payments on a 2009 bond for that project, Mayor Ron Wolfe said.
The next step is to find out if the water authority agrees to the condition, he said.
The water bill increase applies to the base fee for water use, and would equate to $3.91 per month per single family equivalent. The proposal also includes the Arrowhead, Eagle-Vail, Edwards, Berry Creek and Beaver Creek metropolitan districts.
