We are so proud of our daughter, Kerry Donovan, for stepping up to the plate and running for a seat on the Vail Town Council. She was raised surrounded by “what is best for Vail” questions and discussions of the current controversies in Vail because one of us was always serving the community whether on Town Council, Sign Committee, Design Review, Planning and Environmental Commission or helping to write master plans and regulations.
This has given her a great and unusual background that will allow her to quickly become an effective member of council. She knows how much work it is and understands the huge responsibility of being an elected official in the town. Her standards are high for herself and Vail. She will make the community proud to have her represent them.
Kerry has business experience but more importantly, she has a deep understanding of Vail as an entity. She gets the brand as well as anyone we know. She has always defended the community by her actions and words while promoting the resort.
Kerry has created and managed large and small budgets while with the Vail Valley Foundation and the Minturn Community Fund. She has worked at front desks and helped us run Vail Honeywagon (which we ran from our home for 18-plus years).
Her experience with guests is immense. She can work with all economic and social groups and people of all ages. If you know her, you know she is easy to talk to. That is a huge asset in government. She works two jobs and both bosses have given her the time to serve.
During the campaign she has explained her values for decision making, her ethics, principles and personal knowledge. Her independence, intuition and personality will be valuable on council. Kerry knows that forming a consensus with at least three other council members is essential to moving any town issue forward as it takes four votes to make a council decision. She will be good at that essential team building.
Kerry is running a green campaign, so you will not see her signs on the corner or notes on your door.
