VAIL VALLEY, Colorado — The ninth annual Vail Undressed Calendar UnVailing Party is Wednesday at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek.

This year's calendar theme is “Historical Landmarks” and highlights 12 historical landmarks in the Eagle River Valley along with local models, some of whom are landmarks in their own right. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for cocktails, silent auction, and live music, followed by the UnVailing ceremony at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the party, which is sponsored by and sponsored by Vail Custom Builders, and all calendar sales benefit the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, a nonprofit organization created in 1996 that provides assistance to individuals who live or work in Eagle County who are in financial crisis due to a medical catastrophe.

This past year, the demand for assistance increased exponentially, as individuals who once could have overcome the financial burden of a medical crisis could no longer make ends meet. Whereas the organization typically raises and distributes a quarter of a million dollars each year, the organization raised and granted more than $700,000 in fiscal year 2009. Coupled with layoffs, pay cuts, loss of health insurance, mortgage problems, and the struggling real estate market, individuals were increasingly forced to choose between leaving the valley, and struggling to make it here while recovering from a serious accident or illness.

“We are able to provide one-time assistance to eligible individuals with a serious medical condition to help not only with medical costs but also routine living expenses until they can get back on their feet,” says Karen Simon, executive director of the Charitable Fund. “In addition, we can assist with the development of payment plans, help negotiate discounts with health care providers, connect patients with resources they may be unaware of or unable to access on their own and, most importantly, let them focus on the healing process rather than the financial burden they are facing.”

Tickets to the event cost only $30 and include food by Gourmet Cowboy, a complimentary beverage courtesy of High Point Brewing, live music by Bonfire Acoustic Trio, a copy of the 2010 Undressed Calendar, a silent auction with more than a hundred great items, and the first peek at this year's models.

The 2010 will be available for $14.95 plus tax at several retailers throughout the valley. Check out www.vvcf.org for more information.
