VAIL, Colorado — The Friends of the Dance 25th annual fundraising party, the Black and White Evening, is Nov. 7 at Timberhearth Grille in Cordillera in Colorado's Vail Valley. It is an evening of dinner, entertainment by the Vail Youth Ballet Company and DADS, live and silent auctions, dancing and the “Not-to-Be-Missed Frogs” (pictured).
“This party has evolved through the past 25 years — from a movie at Cascade Village Theater followed by apps at Clancey's, to ‘Dancin' Fools' at Cyrano's, Gartons and CJ Capers, to the event it is today,” said Joanne Morgan, secretary and founder of Friends of the Dance. “All in all, it's a fun party because we who are hosting it believe in what we are supporting, and we make our guests feel welcome.”
An exciting feature of this year's party will the auctioning of the role of Mother Ginger in the Dec. 13 “Nutcracker” presentation. The three Nutcracker performances always sell out the Vilar Center so if you win the bidding, all your friends can come watch you under the lights.
Friends of the Dance was founded in 1984 to support dance teachers in the valley as well as dance students in the form of scholarships and performance opportunities. In 1996, the group formed the Vail Youth Ballet Company, a by-audition-only Company made up of advanced-level dancers from Vail Valley Academy of Dance. The organization has also worked with the Bravo! Music Festival Guild and the Vail International Dance Festival in the past.
