Colorado Mountain College offers class in business planning

Workshops is for people considering starting their own businesses

The Roaring Fork Business Resource Center and Colorado Mountain College are presenting a series of workshops for people considering starting their own businesses. The first workshop, Creating a Winning Business Plan, will be taught Nov. 4 throughout Colorado Mountain College's service area.

“We've had several requests for information about business plans from prospective clients, and we're quite pleased that CMC is taking the lead in this effort,” said Randi Lowenthal, president and chief executive officer of the Roaring Fork Business Resource Center in Glenwood Springs.

The instructor, Gwyn Ebie, who holds both a Ph.D. and a master's in business administration, teaches at the college's Aspen Campus. But through CMC's high-tech interactive video system, anyone can take the course at their local campus, from Steamboat Springs to Breckenridge to Buena Vista and many points between.

“A well-prepared business plan shows how practical and attainable the entrepreneur's goals are, by putting down in writing a plan for communication, management and planning,” said Ebie. “It serves as a document that potential investors can review to determine if they are interested in financing a new business venture, and it shows whether the business has a plan to make a profit.”

The workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and costs $99. Advance registration is required by calling Sherri at (970) 384-8522.

Additional workshops, such as “Are You Entrepreneurial Material?”, will be announced soon.
