VAIL, Colorado — The Red Ribbon Project of Eagle County will give free HIV tests later this months in Colorado's Vail Valley
The tests will be given from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Nov. 19, at the Vail Interfaith Chapel in Vail; from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Nov. 20, at the Eagle Care Clinic in Edwards; and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 23, at the United Methodist Church of Eagle Valley in Eagle. No appointment is necessary, results from oral or finger prick tests will be available within 10 to 20 minutes.
There are more than 1 million people in the United States living with HIV. Despite new therapies, people with HIV still develop AIDS and more than 14,000 people with AIDS still die each year in the United States. The Center for Disease Control estimates that some 56,300 Americans become infected each year, and of those Americans, 1 in 5 have never been tested and is therefore unaware of his or her status.
