Snow sneaks into Vail Valley's weekend forecast

Forecasters see better chance of snow, cold in Vail Valley during the middle of next week

VAIL, Colorado — With two weeks until Vail Mountain opens, the valley could be in store for wintry weather in the coming days.

After sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s on Saturday, The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of rain or snow showers on Sunday night and Monday, especially at higher elevations.

The Denver Broncos play at home against Pittsburgh on "Monday Night Football," but no snow is expected in Denver. Local legend has it that snow during an early season Monday night game in Denver causes a surge in resort bookings at Vail.

A better chance for snow comes around the middle of the week. A cold front could drop temperatures into the 30s and cause widspread precipitation, the Weather Service says.

Vail Mountain is scheduled to open Nov. 20 and Beaver Creek, on Nov. 25.
