A kosher meat salesman who scammed investors out of nearly $2.5 million by faking purchase orders for hot dogs was sentenced to 15 years in prison today in U.S. District Court in Denver.
Arnold Zaler, 60, pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud charges and prosecutors and the probation department recommended eight years in prison.
But Senior Judge John L. Kane said that was not enough time and that he was going to depart from the sentencing guidelines.
"He is a hardcore recidivist and sentences of lesser time imposed on him in the past have utterly failed at preventing further crimes of fraud and deception," Kane said.
Zaler owned Zaler's Kosher Meats and had contracts to operate concession stands at the Pepsi Center and Invesco Field at Mile High.
