Glenwood teen gets probation for pipe bomb

19-year-old Scott Stricklan pleaded guilty to making a pipe bomb

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — A Glenwood Springs teenager has received probation and community service after pleading guilty to making a pipe bomb.

Ninth Judicial District Judge Denise Lynch sentenced 19-year-old Scott Stricklan to two years' supervised probation and 15 days' community service on Thursday.

Stricklan was arrested in November 2008 when police discovered and defused a pipe bomb in Stricklan's car. Police later found an AK-47 assault rifle and drugs in Stricklan's home.

Stricklan's attorney, Tom Silverman, said his client was "doing what young boys do" and simply wanted "to see something go boom."

Judge Lynch disagreed, saying she didn't think it was normal behavior for a teen to possess a pipe bomb or an AK-47.
