Colorado medical marijuana supporters head to court

Judge asked to block a change in state regulations limiting who can supply the drug to patients

DENVER — Medical marijuana supporters want a judge to block a change in state regulations limiting who can supply the drug to patients.

The state health board this week narrowed the definition in reaction to a recent state court decision. That ruling says caregivers must have personal contact with clients and do more for their welfare than simply supply the drug.

Lawyers representing a medical marijuana patient and a caregiver say the health board didn't give enough notice that it was considering the change. One of them, Robert Corry, said he learned about it in an e-mail from the board Monday afternoon.

The board met and voted to temporarily suspend its caregiver rule the next day.

A spokesman from the state health department didn't immediately return a call.
