Snowstorm headed for Vail Valley?

Weather Service says chance for significant snow in Vail Thursday and Friday

VAIL — With Vail Mountain set to open in about 10 days, a snow storm forecast for the end of the week may mean the snow gods are starting to smile on the valley.

The forecast for Veteran's Day is another spectacular fall day but the weather could turn colder and snowier on Thursday, the National Weather Service says.

The agency's forecast warns of hazardous travel in the Colorado mountains Thursday through Saturday as a Pacific storm moves through the region.

The best chance of substantial valley rain and mountain snow is late Thursday through Friday night when a strong cold front should move in, the Weather Service says.

The forecast for Thursday is a slight chance of rain between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow. By Thursday night, rain and snow is likely and the temperatures will drop into the low 30s.

Snow is likely again on Friday, with highs near 40.

Vail Mountain will open Nov. 20.
