MINTURN — Minturn Police, with help from other local police agencies, chased an assault suspect in Minturn Tuesday morning before using a taser on the man during his arrest.

A Minturn police officer was trying to pull over Eric T. Trujillo, 32, of Minturn, to question him about an assault that happened Tuesday around 3 a.m., according to a Minturn Police Department news release. Trujillo was a person of interest in the alleged assault, said Minturn spokeswoman Lisa Osborne.

Trujillo parked near his home and got out of his car, running from the officer, according to the release. That's when officers from the Avon, Vail and Eagle police departments, as well as the Eagle County Sheriff's Office, arrived to help.

The police got a search warrant for Trujillo's home, where they expected to find him hiding, Osborne said. Police took him into custody around 1:20 p.m. He was charged with third degree assault and felony alluding.

Trujillo didn't charge at the officers, but he did ignore repeated orders to get on the ground, Osborne said. Police told him they would Taser him if he continued to refuse, she said.

Osborne said details about using the taser wouldn't be available until the police report is complete.

The Eagle County Community Alert System was used during the incident. To sign up for the system, which alert locals about police incidents, storms and other important messages, visit www.ecalert.org.
