MINTURN — The new team developing a ski resort on Battle Mountain wants to introduce itself to the town, so they're holding an open house Thursday night at the Minturn Inn on Main Street.
“We want to have these open house/community forum meetings every three or four months,” project manager David Kleinkopf said. “And right now the rumor mill is full of all kinds of crazy things and we want to set the record straight.”
Kleinkopf said Thursday night's meeting — at the inn on Main Street — will also be a chance for people in Minturn to meet Lorne Bassel, the founder of Crave Real Estate Ventures.
Crave is part-owned by Lubert Adler, the Philadelphia-based private investment company that financed the Battle Mountain project. Crave took over the Battle Mountain project after Lubert Adler took the property from former developer Bobby Ginn.
“I expect they'll give us an update on what they're concentrating on right now,” Minturn Town Council member Jerry Bumgarner said. “They'll probably tell us, ‘This is where we are,' and that may not be different from where it was four or six months ago.”
In a September interview, Kleinkopf said Crave is committed to the Battle Mountain project and intends to develop the property.
Bumgarner said that's his understanding.
“Right now the only thing that's changed is the name on the marquee,” he said.
Kleinkopf said the open house will be a chance to answer residents' questions about the Battle Mountain project.
“It's going to be really informal,” Kleinkopf said. “We want to help people understand what we're doing, and we'll try to put down some of the crazy rumors.”
