Westminster bank robbers, killed in shootout, were couple

Authorities say the robbers were 35-year-old Christian Benshoof and 25-year-old Ashley Johnson

BRIGHTON, Colorado — A man and woman killed in a police shootout after a bank robbery were a romantic couple.

Authorities said Friday that the robbers were 35-year-old Christian Benshoof and 25-year-old Ashley Johnson. Adams County Coroner James Hibbard says Benshoof and Johnson were a couple living together in Loveland.

The couple was shot to death Thursday by police as they fled a bank in Westminster and fired on officers. Benshoof died of a gunshot to the head and chest. Hibbard says Johnson died of a gunshot to the chest.

Westminster police officer Sean Chandler, who was shot in the hip, was released from the hospital and was recovering at home Friday. Deputy Police Chief Tim Carlson, who was grazed by a bullet, was treated at the scene Thursday.
