Man accused of shoplifting twice in two days in Gypsum

Man suspect of taking merchandise from Costco, Stop N' Save

The following excerpts were taken from Eagle County law enforcement officers and police reports.
GYPSUM, Colorado — The same man was involved in two separate shoplifting incidents last week in Gypsum.

On Nov. 9 deputies were advised that a beige automobile leaving Costco was involved in a theft. When deputies caught up with the vehicle, the driver pulled over before the deputy even activated his lights.

There were a man and a woman in the vehicle. The man told the deputy that he had put items in the woman's purse because they had forgotten to take a shopping cart, and then they had forgotten to pay for the $57.35 worth of merchandise.

The duo was issued summonses for theft and told to never return to Costco.

The same man was involved in a shoplifting incident at Stop N' Save two days later.

The man took two hats into the bathroom with him. Another man distracted the store clerk while the man in the bathroom walked out of the store with the merchandise.

This was caught on camera. Deputies contacted the man with the hats and he was served with a summons for theft and third degree criminal trespassing. The man's father contacted deputies and informed them that he had found the hats in question near his son's bed. The hats were returned to the store.
