My daughter lives in your wonderful town of Eagle. During her last visit with me, she pointed out a lot of the many empty shopping centers we have here in the Kansas City area.
It saddens me that Eagle is considering putting so much asphalt and such large structures in your quaint little town. Even here in Kansas City, the parking lots and stores are never full, and we have over 2 million people in the area!
I have visited Eagle several times and plan on doing so more and more over the upcoming years. I cannot imagine Eagle looking the same as Kansas City. Of course, Kansas City is bigger. But a strip of stores with Target looks the same everywhere you go.
I understand the reason for this project is money for the town. Since I do not live there, I of course do not have the answers. But it seems to me that we should have learned over the past few years, especially the last one, what chasing only dollars does.
Please choose something more than money. No amount of money can buy what you will lose in the feel of that community. And it would take a lot of money to tear up the large asphalt of the parking spaces after it is unsuccessful.
I look forward to my next visit to Eagle and I look forward to you voting “no” on Jan. 5.
