VAIL, Colorado - Installation of the third annual Triumph Winterfest illuminated ice sculpture exhibit begins this week in Vail, Colorado. The official lighting ceremony is set for Friday from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The illumination of "are you listening..." will take place along the Gore Creek Promenade. Attendees will have a chance to meet the artists, view the exhibit and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate provided by Blu's Restaurant. Many shops and restaurants along the Gore Creek Promenade will have specials celebrating the official lighting of "are you listening..."
Artists Lawrence Argent of Denver and Scott Rella of the Vail Valley have collaborated again to bring the Triumph Winterfest exhibition to Vail. The exhibit, called "are you listening...", is composed of several larger-than-life ice sculptures of the human ear. Exploring the "pathways of listening," Argent poses the questions, "What do we listen to? What or who is creating the sounds we listen to? When we do, how is it filtered through our systems of consciousness and knowledge?"
The exhibit engages the viewer to contemplate the interpretation of sound and conversation, especially in this day of modern technology.
Triumph Winterfest has garnered national media attention. It has been named one of America's best public art projects by the Americans for the Arts. "are you listening..." will be on view throughout the day and evenings, until the ice melts. A popular family-friendly event, Triumph Winterfest invites the public to explore the ice installation during the day, as well as in the evening when it is illuminated by energy-efficient LEDs. There will be heightened security around the exhibit to discourage vandalism.
The project is funded by Triumph Development with additional support provided by U.S. Bank and Winmax Foundation.
