Racing down I-70 like a race car at Bandemere Speedway my dad's GMC Yukon speeds past trees, making them bend back and forth, finally arriving at Vail, Colorado.
When I first saw that exquisite, clean, organized town, I almost fainted. Then I went to the west side of town and then I saw my condo. It was an elegant condo. The furniture was all leather, the TV was a LED 52-inch Sony Bravia. The kitchen utensils and machinery were all polished and new. This was only my condo, but it was like heaven. And that was only the condo.
They had a half-inside and half-outside pool, two jacuzzis, a sauna and a steam room for all your aquatic needs.
Plus there was a game room. They call it The Cave. Its interior had that claw game where you win stuffed animals, and a foosball table plus two Wii's.
And the walls were painted like a forest cave. Two racquetball courts, an exercise room, a study with a Starbucks coffee machine, a giant chess board and a flat screen TV the size of a file cabinet. A big one. I only wanted to stay at the hotel all day. Outside my condo was a river with a hot tub five feet beyond it. Because it was as cold as a mackerel in 25 degrees, Vail with a freezing river next to it. it doesn't help much, so that's why it's there.
The next day we went to the town. On the way to town we saw a spa. My mom would do anything to get a massage after the long drive. But unfortunately she couldn't go. Too bad for her.
The town was as busy as a beehive. People going in and out of the stores, taking pictures, etc. Our first sight was a statue of a 10th Mountain Division soldier. It was a 12-foot-tall, 7,000-pound bronze memorial statue. It was a phenomenal sculpture.
And a few yards south lay a river called Gore Creek and it had crystal clear water. The town had brick flooring. Next to a restaurant there was this giant replica of a pirate ship where kids could play in. It was an exalting sight, like a real pirate ship. There was a crow's nest a lower deck, a ship hold and tons more. A few yards away from the ship lay a small path with a stream running by it. Not like the river by the statue, but a small calm path leading you into the town's center. In that sanctuary there were some benches and a gigantic fountain.
Then my parents said we should go to another part of Vail called Lionshead. By golly, it was ostentatious. The only hotels were the Westin and the Hyatt. In Lionshead there was this rock place and the rocks were magnificent, phenomenal and intriguing. Many rocks there were mammoth tusks, fossils of fish in polished slate that were 3D. I had a field day in there. Even my dad was amazed.
My mom tried on this $100,000 necklace with rubies, diamonds, emeralds, sapphire and tons more. I am going to be a geologist when I grow up, but I don't know much at this age. The names of some rocks were like soapstone and gneiss. This wasn't heaven for me. It was something better than that. I loved it so much. Then we had to go home.
The next day we went to this great Mexican restaurant. Speaking of food, I think Vail has the best food I've ever tasted. Then we got back to the condo, I did an activity they had that morning. We saw skiers and that reminded me that Vail had the No. 1 skiing in the world. Even better than the Matterhorn. Every ski day they twist and toil with the snow to make it the best ski experience you ever had. This was my favorite vacation I ever had with my family.
