Ted (Springer, Letters to the editor, Jan. 30),
Slow down. You're shouting out blatant bias from the beginning to end of your letter. It is incredibly one-sided. I am neither a Republican or a Democrat, but this sort of chatter is perturbing.
You say, “Truth is, Obama and his people have been actively pursuing the terrorist problem, but that is not the kind of thing they choose to do through the media.”
I say, how are you privy to so much information about Obama's administration? Are you on the inside and just keeping it classified? Please enlighten us.
You say, “And are climate change and health care secondary and tertiary considerations? Tell that to all those Americans whose health insurance has been denied because of change of jobs. Or because of a pre-existing condition. Most bankruptcies are because of the inability to pay for the health care costs people have necessarily sustained.”
I say, tell that to the people on the flight that a terrorist attempted to blow up and the families of the wounded and killed at Fort Hood. I would recommend looking at the polls of Americans against Obama's proposal for health-care — not even close to an even divide. Recent elections and grass-root movements have shown a drastic shift in ideology. Americans want to stop spending — bottom line. And you propose a government take-over of one-sixth of the economy? How about bankruptcy of a country because of the plan you endorse? Your dollar will be worth a peso.
You say, “What have the Republicans done regarding health-care plans other than to say no to everything put forth by the Democrats and floating a laughable half-plan ... ”
I say, nothing, neither have the Democrats. Why are you so proud of your supposed colleagues (buying votes, etc.)? They are both laughable; both sides and both plans.
You say, “Obama headed into a decades-long need for a re-do on our health-care system. The U.S. is the only first tier country (of some 17 industrialized nations) to deny universal health-care coverage to its citizens.”
I say, where are the majority of all drugs and medical equipment created that are used around the world? Not in Cuba nor the 17 industrialized nations you mentioned (speaking vast majority — do not twist that). Capitalism is the driving force behind progress, excellence and development. It may come at a steep price, but it comes and you enjoy it. I'm sorry, but does the government owe everyone health-care and handouts? Did I miss that in our Constitution? Maybe the government should feed us as well. I would like my meals mailed to me each week — fresh vegetables and high quality beef. Can you prescribe that?
You say, “Most economists now agree that the economy is, in fact, on the rise. Shall we give Obama a whole lot of credit? Of course.”
I say, anyone with knowledge of economics knows it takes time for measures to show fruition. Did Obama do this in one year? Very doubtful, but nice try. Can anyone really pinpoint if the economy is on the rise and, if so, why? Who releases the facts on the unemployment rate anyway? Our very own trustworthy government, of course.
You say, “Can anyone deny, even Mazzuca, that Obama has given hope for a better future to billions (billions!) of world inhabitants?"
I say, billions! Now, that is laughable! Broaden your horizons to speaking with people from other nations. Unbelievable, Keith Olbermann would be so proud.
You say, “The key to a successful future for us all lies in building an international community of cooperation and respect. That's why, by the way, Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Hope.”
I say, never in the history of this prize was this award given on a mysterious idea of “hope.” It is based on tangible evidence. The key to a successful future? Actually, it would begin with the people of this country, not foreign countries and the “billions.” However, you could join the billions with “Obama hope” and universal health-care. I will gladly buy your plane ticket.
You say, “Lo and behold, many Republicans actually believe we have global warming and it is largely being caused by humans.”
I say, study physics and the greenhouse effect. Become a scientist and stop listening to the media and other outlets. Your global warming theory violates several laws of thermodynamics and in no way, shape, or form is it a “greenhouse effect” as they would have you believe.
You say, “We are blessed with the leadership of a president who is extremely intelligent yet pragmatic, compassionate and has the temperament and skill to solve the nation's problems successfully. OK, now you know where I stand.”
I say, yes, we know where you stand, a solid foundation of bias without any backing. I'm assuming you are a cabinet member of some sort writing into The Vail Daily. The Vail Daily is the one that is blessed to have such a beneficial resource to give so much useful information to the current state of things. For your sake, I hope big brother will not find out there is a leak of secrets.
I have issues on both sides of the aisles, but unjustified chatter is a perpetual swing in this country and your letter shows more of it. I would love to hear some solid answers for your information; not your ingrained ideas that have been brought to you by propaganda sponsored by your cohorts.
