VAIL — The Vail Golf Club, led by head pro Jeanne Sutherland, is hoping to get a group of 12 golfers to escape the snow and head to Bandon Dunes, Ore., for three days of golf March 29 to 31.
The trip includes rounds at Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails. All three tracks have won countless honors from golfing magazines and are some of the best loops in the country.
If there are 12 winning golfers, Sutherland said that the rate will be $840 per person, based on double occupancy. This amount includes the three rounds of golf, three night's lodging in the Chrome Lake Lodge and three breakfasts and two dinners.
The trip is open to anyone, but a reminder, these are walking courses only. They do have caddies, which are $55 per round.
Sutherland will provide clinics each day that the group is on site for an additional $100 per person for the three clinics. The practice facilities at Bandon Dunes are fantastic, so Sutherland will be able to cover all areas of the game within the three clinics.
Those interested need to join the group by Friday.
There are many travel options, which will be left to the individual. The nearest airport is Coos Bay. Flights into Portland are less expensive but leave a long drive.
The weather in March might be a bit iffy, but players used to the mountains can handle rain. Call Sutherland at 970-479-2260, ext. 4.
Sutherland is also planning a ladies-only trip in April to Pine Needles in North Carolina. Details will be available in the next 10 days.
Super Sunday for Colorado Performance
Super Bowl weekend held many exciting parties and get-togethers.
For Eagle Valley sophomore Kelsey VanGoey and her club volleyball team, the Colorado Performance 16-1, it meant another day on the volleyball court.
Power No. 2 Tournament for this Division I team meant travelling to Loveland to compete against the top-eight teams in the 16s age division.
The morning began with an easy, two-game win against NORCO volleyball club's 16-2s team. VanGoey had several assists as setter and a point-scoring block late in the second game. Unfortunately, the rest of the day would find the team trying to find its footing against the other high-powered teams.
An exhausting second match against another NORCO team, this time its 16-1s team, found them battling for a victory. The match only went two games with Norco winning, 25-17, 25-15. The third and final match of the day was against Club One Volleyball Club, which was seeded lower than the 16-1 Colorado Performance team at the onset of the tournament. At face value, it should've been a win. However, even with VanGoey's four digs, the team ended the day with another loss, albeit close at 25-20 and 22-25.
Next up is playing up an age bracket in the 17s age division on Feb. 21.
