What they talked about: The Urban Land Institute, a nonprofit group made up of land planners from around the world, recently awarded Eagle County a “Jack Kemp Models of Excellence” award for the Miller Ranch workforce housing project at Edwards.
“This is an award we inherited,” Commissioner Sara Fisher said, referring to the work of previous commissioners and others.
County housing coordinator Alex Potente said the success of Miller Ranch is the result of having nearby schools, including Colorado Mountain College, as well as having nearby recreation, shopping and other features.

Issue: Renewing the consulting contract with the Economic Council of Eagle County.
How they voted: Yes: Stavney, Fisher. What it means: The county will pay about $7,500 per month to the council to manage the Valley Home Store, as well as produce quarterly economic activity reports and an annual workforce report.
The council this year will also continue to work on affordable housing, including creating a database the Home Store can use. The group will also be asked to help pull together a group to discuss and plan for future mass transit projects.
Stavney said the council is a cost-effective way to get work done for the county.
“We're paying you a little less than $8,000 a month,” he said. “I've seen consultant bills that have exceeded $8,000 a day.”
Stavney added that representatives at a recent get-together of mayors and town managers from around the county “overwhelmingly” supported bringing the economic council into work on mass transit.
