David Guion Hawkins died Feb 13 at his home in Buffalo, Wyo. He was 66.
David was born in Chicago on April 25, 1943 to John and Helen Hawkins. He attended St. George High School in Evanston, Ill., where he was the starting quarterback and co-captain of one of the top-ranked teams in the state. He graduated from Southern Illinois University. He was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam from 1969-70, where he earned a bronze star.
He moved to Vail in the mid-70s and worked as a bartender, cook, fly fishing guide and managed an Orvis shop. David loved horseback riding, mountain man events, trips to Lake Powell, fly fishing, and camping. He was a great storyteller and his natural Irish humor brought many a chuckle to his friends. David is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Jack and Bonnie Hawkins in Wisconsin, niece Christine, nephew Dan and many cousins.
A memorial service is planned at 10 a.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo, Wyo.
