VAIL, Colorado — Vail's state of the economy will be the focus of the town's Annual Community Meeting and Open House, scheduled for Tuesday, March 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Donovan Pavilion.
The event is sponsored by the Vail Town Council and will include opportunities to learn more about the community's economic health as well as priorities identified by the town and its partner agencies, including Vail Resorts, Vail Recreation District, Eagle River Water & Sanitation District, Eagle County Wildfire Mitigation and the U.S. Forest Service.
Full-time and part-time residents, business owners, property owners, employees and others interested in the state of the community are encouraged to attend. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with informational displays including topics of economic development, work force housing, parking/transportation, guest relations/customer service, forest health, recreation, water conservation and environment. Information about the 2010 U.S. Census also will be presented as the town seeks to improve upon a response rate of 34 percent in 2000.
A brief update on the state of the town will be led by Mayor Dick Cleveland beginning at 5:30 p.m. Chris Jarnot, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain, will also address the gathering with a community update on improvements planned for Vail Mountain and the company's focus on guest service. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations with time for additional one-on-one discussions and open house displays for the remainder of the evening.
New this year will be an energy efficiency display featuring ideas for insulation and other home improvements staffed by the town's environmental sustainability office. Community members are asked to bring their used incandescent light bulbs, compact fluorescent bulbs or linear fluorescent tubes for recycling and exchange them for replacement CFL bulbs, courtesy of Holy Cross Energy.
This is the 10th consecutive year for the part-business, part-social gathering. Parking is free and light appetizers will be served. For more information, contact the community information office at 970-479-2115.
