VAIL, Colorado — Security cameras tipped police to a snowboard theft in progress on Vail Mountain Feb. 2.
A 21-year-old man was recorded taking a snowboard and hiding it near a “coal train car.” Vail Mountain Security identified the man as a cook at an on-mountain restaurant, where police eventually contacted him.
The suspect initially said the snowboard belonged to his roommate who had called and asked him to hide the board. After some grilling he ‘confessed up that he had intended to steal the board but got scared while he was carrying it off. He said all his roommates had nice snowboards and he wanted one, too. He was charged with theft.
