VAIL, Colorado — Ski and Snowboard Club Vail's Genevieve Soden knows Interstate 70 — both the part of the course on Golden Peak and the highway itself. She lives in Denver and commutes up here every weekend to train. When she's not commuting and skiing, she's big on the arts.

How do you prepare: “I really warm up at the start and I take deep breaths and say, ‘It's going to be my best run.' A lot of times, it is. I visualize before I get in the gate.”
Best ski advice received: “Don't be scared. Just go for it.”
How do you not be scared: “I just kind of think about what I have to do and not think about crashing or what mistakes I'll make. I think about what I'll do the best.”
Favorite skier: Lindsey Vonn — “I thought it was so cool. I was so glad for her.”
Favorite subjects: Art and literature — “I like to do paintings and sculpture. In lit, I love to read.”
