GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Alpine Bank with membership in the 2010 Green Power Leadership Club, a group of “Green Power Partners” that demonstrate environmental leadership.
The EPA Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that supports businesses that want to buy green power by offering expert advice, technical support, tools and resources. Green power is electricity produced from a of renewable resources including solar, wind and geothermal electricity and heat.
Each year, partners are asked to notify the EPA when they change their green power purchase or partnership status. The Green Power Leadership Club honors partners that exceed EPA's minimum purchase requirements.
Alpine Bank has purchased 100 percent green electric power directly from their utility providers (where available) since the second quarter of 2009. The bank became an EPA Green Power Partner in June of las year.
“We're honored to receive this recognition — however, green power is a very small part of what we do,” Alpine Bank Vice Chairman and President, Glen Jammaron said. “We strive to measure all of our green initiatives with efficiency, effectiveness, and durability.”
Alpine Banks other environmental honors include:
• The company was selected as a 2009 Sustainability Champion, co-sponsored by the Colorado Environmental Partnership and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
• Alpine Bank was designated a “Gold Leader” in October of 2008 from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, in cooperation with the Pollution Prevention Advisory Board and the Colorado Environmental Partnership, for the bank's environmental leadership. Alpine Bank is the first and only financial institution in Colorado to be recognized with this award.
Alpine Banks have plans to adopt initiatives to “Green the Banks” by 2012 that include:
• A 20 percent reduction in energy use and paper use.
• A 10 percent reduction in water consumption.
• A 25 percent reduction in courier fleet fuel consumption.
