VAIL — Olympic fever ran high in Vail, Colorado recently as Marty Head, Dr. John Feagin and Bob Beattie hosted a high energy reception benefitting the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum and Hall of Fame.
The doors of Ms. Head and Dr. Feagin's home were opened to museum supporters who mixed and mingled with former Olympians Cindy Nelson, Moose Barrows and Billy Kidd. At the base of the staircase, Lindsay Vonn's autographed Head ski stood proudly as we all knew it's owner was vying for the cherished gold.
Upstairs, the guests felt like they were in Vancouver as the Head/Feagin living room connected to the Vancouver Vail House via Skype. Sandy Treat especially found this modern age hook up intriguing as he put on the head seat to have a real, one-on-one conversation with his friends.
In the Head/Feagin study, Billy Kidd had Carl Colby, Michael Byram and Pedro Cerisola's full attention as he showed them the ski boot that helped him win his Olympic medal in 1964. Museum board member Diane Boyer showed her mom, Jocelyn, and Dartmouth College pal, Julie Schwartz, the display of old Olympic pins from the museum.
Of course, Bob Beattie had Jack and Kathleen Eck. along with Mitch and Heather Whiteford, chuckling with his great renditions of being an Olympic coach turned announcer. The old Olympic books caught the eyes of Doe Browning and Ann Smead as they marveled over the photos of Olympic settings of the past.
Joining Marty and John for some fun chats were Dr. Richard Steadman and wife Gay, Elaine Kelton and Lorraine Higbie. All were savoring Chef Barry Robinson's scrumptious hors d'oeurves while chatting and catching up with old friends.
The highlight of the evening came when Dr. Feagin welcomed everyone and Head endorsed how unique and special the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum is to the state of Colorado.
Cindy Nelson spoke of her Olympic days and explained all the different medals in her display case. Listening in awe were David Cole, wife Virginia Pyson along with John and Nancy Tyler. Kidd, Beattie and Steadman also jumped in to add interesting pieces to the impromptu presentation.
