Vail Daily letter: Well, at least Cuba approves of ObamaCare

"Go for it!" That was what President Obama, speaking to a clearly partisan crowd in Iowa, said to those in Congress who are challenging the constitutionality of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid HR 3590 health care reform bill that was recently passed. Then there was the divisive joking about "Armageddon and blue skies and birds." Should not the rhetoric of the leader of our nation try to bring us together rather then pour salt into the wounds created by this partisan bill? You would think that the president of the United States, who is sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America, would be the one person in government who would want to be assured of the constitutionality of any law passed by Congress. The arm twisting, deal making, pressure and closed-door partisan politics have taken one-sixth of the economy of our country and put it in the hands of those who have mismanaged Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Amtrak and the U.S. Postal Service.Companies such as AT&T and John Deere have said that the new reforms will cost them billions of dollars. How do you think they will react to this attack on their profitability? Will they hire more, or will the pink slips begin flowing to maintain their profits? Maybe this president and Congress will decide that it would be better for the country to have government take over control of these companies as it has done with the health care profession, student loans and parts of the auto industry.Bulletin! Fidel Castro has lauded President Obama on the passage of his health care reform. In his statement, Castro said that all of the people of Cuba have had health care for 50 years. Unless you believe Michael Moore, it is acknowledged that the quality of health care in Cuba is quite inferior. Oh, and by the way, wasn't it just in the past year or so that Cubans were allowed to have cell phones? Well, I guess we can look to Cuba as a model for the future of our country.
