AVON, Colorado — The local Habitat for Humanity affiliate is hosting its signature fundraiser, The Carpenters Ball.
The event plays a big part in helping Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties in its mission to build decent, affordable housing for people in need.
“With the continued support from organizations like The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, donors and volunteers, we are helping to address the affordable housing needs in Eagle County,” said John Welaj, executive director of the local Habitat affiliate.
The local Habitat affiliate has built 29 homes in the local community with the help of volunteer groups, discounted professional services, family participation, generous donors and event sponsors. Their work has helped house 92 children.
Founded in 1995, Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties has focused much of its energy on its Fox Hollow project in Edwards. By the time the Fox Hollow project is completed in about a year, the local group will have completed 35 homes, housing more than 110 children.
Across Colorado, Habitat affiliates have completed 1,000 homes over the last 30 years, housing more than 5,000 people.
Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 and is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing around the world. Habitat has repaired, rehabilitated or improved 400,000 houses worldwide, providing shelter for more than 2 million people.
The local affiliate is playing a big part in that. Habitat of Eagle and Lake Counties led an introductory build trip to Paraguay to kick off the international portion of the 1,000 Homes Campaign.
Local Habitat board member Amanda Precourt led the charge with staff member Emily Peyton and six other Habitat supporters to build a home in Asuncion, Paraguay.
“Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties has been an invaluable partner in helping to support many local families who are in need of a safe and comfortable home - something many of us take for granted,” said Abdullah Vural, general manager of the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch.
