MINTURN, Colorado — The U.S. Forest Service and Eagle River Watershed Council will be restoring a six-mile section of Homestake Creek on the way up to Homestake Reservoir. Learn about the project Wednesday at a snowshoe walk, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Minturn Saloon.
This special WaterWise Wednesday will familiarize you with issues the creek faces, as Matt Grove, aquatic biologist with the U.S. Forest Service, guides participants on a tour of part of the restoration area. About 100 volunteers from the community will be needed this summer to rehabilitate 43 campsites and roads, create in-stream fish habitat, and restore banks for the animals that live there.
The hike and educational presentation will last about one hour. Afterwards the group will head back to the Saloon for questions, answers and perhaps a margarita.
Call 970-827-5406 if you have questions.
