EDWARDS — Work to complete a variable message sign on eastbound Interstate 70 near Edwards will close one lane of the the highway between 10 p.m. today and 3 a.m. Friday. At some point, both eastbound lanes will be closed for about 20 minutes.
The work is part of a Colorado Department of Transportation project to upgrade several variable message signs on the Western Slope in Eagle, Garfield and Mesa counties. According to a press release, the new signs will improve the display of the old signs and “more effectively communicate with the traveling public.”
Each sign installation costs approximately $250,000 to $300,000 depending on the location. The cost includes a foundation, steel structure, wiring and labor.
