New York City Ballet's MOVES showcases its new choreography

VAIL, Colorado - Following the launch of New York City Ballet's new touring group on Sunday night in Vail, New York City Ballet MOVES presents a second program of dances with choreography created in the 21st century by modern luminaries Christopher Wheeldon and NYCB Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins. The performance will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail.

"Having the New York City Ballet here to open the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival was very exciting for us," says Ceil Folz, President of the Vail Valley Foundation, presenters of the annual Festival. "Since Damian Woetzel has taken the reigns as artistic director of the Festival, we've looked forward to welcoming many members of his former company on our stages, and now they're here." Former principal dancer with New York City Ballet, Woetzel has been the artistic director of the Vail International Dance Festival since 2007.

NYCB Moves presents three pieces in their program tonight, including Christopher Wheeldon's "Polyphonia" and "After the Rain Pas de Deux." A favorite with Vail audiences, Wheeldon was the resident choreographer for New York City Ballet before forming his own ballet company Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, which launched at the Vail International Dance Festival. Also on the program for Monday night is "Hallelujah Junction," choreographed by Peter Martins.

Tickets to New York City Ballet MOVES 21st Century Moves and all performances at the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival are available online at www.vaildance.org or by phone at 888-920-ARTS(2787).
