Thursday at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion you can feast on delicious soup, bread and dessert from local restaurants including Spago, Splendido and Grouse Mountain Grill and take an empty, hand-made bowl home, all for only $20. The event, which is open to the public, runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. and is the best deal in town.
“All proceeds go directly to the Vail Valley Salvation Army Food Pantry and stays in Eagle County to help feed hungry people here,” said Event organizer Diana Mathias.
Mathias and many other volunteers gathered together recently at the Colorado Mountain College ceramics studio for a throw-a-thon, where they made about 150 bowls to use to serve the soup prepared for the meal. CMC adjunct faculty of the year and accomplished artist Colleen Everett was busy orchestrating the pottery production.
“These students and volunteers come together out of love in their hearts to help out an important cause,” said Everett, who helped organize the first ever Art on the Rockies at CMC this past July in cooperation with the nonprofit Vail Valley Arts Council. Everett will be teaching functional pottery, ceramic sculpture and advanced throwing techniques at CMC this fall semester, starting Sept. 5 and 6.
To reserve your hand-made bowl for this feast for a reason contact Diana Mathias at 970-471-6000. Organizers wish to thank all of the volunteer potters and food sponsors for their generous donations. Come on out to Eagle-Vail today for some super soup and support this community event.
