Reading Buddies is a reading enrichment program that pairs trained teens entering grade 9-12 with a younger child once a week to read, play games and do reading-related activities.
“Students in grades 7-12 can volunteer to be Big Buddies,” said Cathy Zaikis, who specializes in services for teens at the Avon Public Library. “Typically, Big Buddies are teens who love reading, enjoy working with younger children, and want to give back to their community.”
All teen volunteers will receive training before and during the program.
Interested teens should fill out an application and attend the training on Monday, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Avon Library. Applications are available at the library or on the library's website at www.evld.org.
Reading Buddies fall session will be held at the Avon Public Library on Wednesdays, Oct. 5-Nov. 23, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. For more information, call 970-949-6797 or 970-949-5026.
Reading Buddies is a partnership project between the Eagle Valley Library District, The Literacy Project and the Friends of the Eagle Valley Library District.
