State, local authorities to lead medical marijuana panel next week

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers will be among the panelists featured in a presentation planned Monday, Dec. 12, titled "How do you feel about the impact of medical marijuana on youth?"

The session will get under way at 6:30 p.m. in the main meeting room at the Eagle County Building and is intended for "teens, parents, business representatives, elected officials and community members."

In addition to Suthers, panelists will include Eagle County Undersheriff Mike McWilliam and local physician Dr. Drew Werner. Topics covered will include the history of medical marijuana in Colorado, current laws and a statewide perspective on the issue. Dr. Werner will discuss the effect of marijuana on the adolescent brain and body, and McWilliam will present information about drug-related statistics within the community and the school system.

Live Spanish translation services will be available. The Eagle Valley High School Devils Against Drinking and Drugs organization is co-hosting the event.

For additional information about the session, contact organizer Sara Cross, EVHS Outreach and Prevention Coordinator at 970-328-5969.
