EDWARDS - The second annual Artists' Holiday Market is set for this weekend at Alpine Arts Center, with more than 20 participating artists displaying and selling handmade holiday gifts. The Holiday Market will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Alpine Arts Center, in the Edwards Commercial Park. The public is invited to browse and shop for gifts, enjoy hot cider and cookies, and view a special silent auction table of items that will benefit The Youth Foundation Alpine Arts Scholarship Program. There is also an Artists' Reception set for Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
"We invite everyone to join us this weekend and get into the holiday spirit while supporting local artists in our community," said Lauren Merrill, owner of Alpine Arts Center. "Parents can also bring the kids to the market for drop-in activities all weekend long including ornament and gift making, paint pottery, and gift bag decorating."
Merrill said the market size is double this year from last year, with artists showcasing pottery, paintings, jewelry, posters, knitted hats and scarves, home accessories, handmade cards, ornaments, vases, and more. Alpine Arts Center will also have an under $5 table with items perfect for stocking stuffers and smaller gifts.
Among participating artists are Steve Kiene and Kelly Eppinger; both artists use the image of an aspen tree to make functional gifts. Kiene is known for his one of a kind, bark vases and Eppinger paints beautiful aspen trees on wooden jewelry holders.
Jennifer Junto, local artist and art teacher at Battle Mountain High School, is another participating artist who will sell her framed prints, illustrated book and feather jewelry at the market.
"The Alpine Arts Center opens doors for members of the community to explore and expand their creativity," Junto said. "I appreciate the additional opportunities Lauren Merrill provides the students and art teachers of Battle Mountain High."
Other artists participating in the market include Debbie Bolon-Feeney, Melissa Sherowski, Katie Tille, Michelle Williams, Helen Bradley, Weatherly Stroh, Ron Hawkins, Lara Rountree, Amy Dose, Jennifer Cakir, Shen, Amber Jones, Lynne Perry, David Mayer, Lauren Merrill, Christine Heimerl, Erin Luciro and Valerie Muspratt.
In addition to these artist vendors, Telluride artist and landscape architect Greg Deame is the featured artist in Alpine Arts Center's gallery this month. Deame has more than 25 pieces on display in the gallery, all intricately designed with a pen set, brushes, straws, paper towels, and a hairdryer. His gallery reception will be held in conjunction with the Artists' Reception on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., which is free and open to the public, and appetizers will be served.
