'The Ordinary Skier' screens at Vail Mountain School Wednesday

VAIL - Vail screens "The Ordinary Skier" featuring local ski professional Seth Morrison Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Vail Mountain School. The film chronicles the life of Morrison and his path to ski stardom; it's not so much a ski movie as it is a movie about a skier.

"If you love something enough ..." Morrison explains at the movie's start, a sentiment which sets the tone for his life dedicated to a sport which turns into a career.

"The Ordinary Skier" provides a unique view on Morrison's journey from a young kid who discovers skiing on an Illinois hill to teenage years lapping Vail Mountain to his last two seasons of ski mountaineering in Chamonix, France. Featuring poignant comments from and footage of Morrison and his family, the film also includes skiers JP Auclair, Pep Fujas, Kye Petersen, Sean Pettit and Dan Treadway, which provides a more complete picture of Morrison's life in particular, and the rise of a professional skiing career in general.

The Vail screening of "The Ordinary Skier" is organized by Vail locals Tucker Cocchiarella and Ephraim Learned, and will benefit the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Dakoda's Fight for Children's Cancer, and Vail Mountain Ski Patrol's Avalanche Awareness Program.

"As a Vail local, Seth is as inspiring as he is humbling," said Cocchiarella, a junior at Vail Mountain School. "His dedication to a sport we love in this town is something to be appreciated and celebrated."

In addition to the film screening, Wednesday's event will be hosted by Vail Mountain ski patroller Reid Phillips and will feature free raffle prizes from Oakley, Hestra, Black Diamond, K2, and many local shops, restaurants, and businesses.
