After giving officers a fake passport, man cops to forgery

AVON-- A man charged with kidnapping and sex crimes in Avon plead guilty to false reporting to the authorities and forgery after he gave Summit County authorities a fake passport last month.

Allan Sinai Ortiz-Barraloga, 26, gave officers an altered passport and a fake name Dec. 22 when they caught up with him at a Silverthorne car wash days after he is suspected of kidnapping, assaulting and sexually harassing a woman in Avon.

Through an interpreter, Ortiz-Barraloga told a judge Tuesday he would take a plea deal dismissing the original charge of criminal impersonation, in exchange for charges of second-degree forgery and false reporting.

At his first court appearance, Ortiz-Barraloga said he was aware the charges could cause him to be deported from the country. Ortiz-Barraloga is a Honduran national.

He will now be transferred to Eagle County to face the more serious charges of unlawful sexual contact, indecent exposure, third-degree assault, criminal mischief and menacing stemming from an encounter with an old girlfriend Dec. 16.

If convicted of those charges, Ortiz-Barraloga faces up to 24 years in prison and $1 million in fines for the kidnapping charge and another 2 to 6 years and $500,000 in fines for unlawful sexual contact, a felony. The other charges are misdemeanors, each carrying possible sentences of several months to two years in prison, according to Fifth Judicial District Attorney Mark Hurlbert.

The alleged victim told Avon police Ortiz-Barraloga, showed up at her house and forced her into his car by threatening her children. She said he proceeded to intimidate, hit, bite and sexually harass her, according to an arrest warrant provided by the DA's office.

Avon police worked with Silverthorne Police and the Summit County sheriff's office to track Ortiz-Barraloga down using his cell phone a few days later.
