On March 3, Vail will host Pink Vail, an all-mountain ski/snowboard day and concert to benefit breast cancer programs and resources at Shaw Regional Cancer Center.
Similar to a summer breast cancer walk or run, participants ask friends and family to sponsor their day on a "pinkified" Vail Mountain. Participants can track their fundraising progress through the event website: www.pinkvail.com.
The day of the event, check-in at the big pink tent located near the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead to pick up credentials and an event trail map. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the day at their own leisure, knowing they are supporting breast cancer. For those seeking a challenge, don't miss the Checkpoint Challenge where participants will hunt five famous Vail decks, earning prizes along the way.
After a day on the mountain, participants are invited to be a part of the "Celebration Ski Down" where cancer survivors, their family and friends, and those skiing in honor of a loved one will come together at Eagle's Nest at 4 p.m. before skiing down Simba into Lionshead. This unifying run will kick off the evening in Arrabelle Square with a pink apres party, awards ceremony and free concert by Gomez. Gomez, an English indie rock band, has opened for the Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam and played at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. The family-friendly show will take place in Arrabelle Square.
Pink Vail proceeds directly benefit patient care and programs at Shaw Regional Cancer Center, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and the region's only fully accredited cancer treatment and comprehensive breast center.
Get involved by registering at www.pinkvail.com as an individual or start a team and raise funds for Shaw Regional Cancer Center. Everyone is invited to participate; there are no age limits or ability requirements. There is no minimum dollar requirement to sign up online, but individuals will need to raise $25 to officially participate on March 3. A ski pass or lift ticket is required for mountain access.
