In Valley Voices (Vail Daily, Feb. 6, “Go Fish”), the author uses a long and labored metaphor to defile liberals: “The liberal path leads to tyranny and slavery.”
With religious allusions, his commentary is nevertheless rather nasty, and quite the opposite of a biblically-oriented stance.
The fact is liberals have traditionally been the ones to express caring and compassion as primary values, not unlike the “King: (using your word). Quite biblical, actually.
And thank you, Richard Carnes, for your column about “The perfect GOP candidate” (Vail Daily, Feb. 7).
In your desire to promote a reasoned position for a GOP candidate, you have unwittingly described, with few exceptions, the values and actions of the Democrats in general and the current occupant of the White House in particular.
None of the Republcan candidates come close to meeting your well-considered criteria.
So, come the next election, you will have the delightful opportunity to do as you say and “be swayed” to vote for the Democrat.
