Petitions to run for Eagle, Gypsum town councils are now available

On April 3, Eagle voters will elect three town board members and a mayor, and nomination petitions are now available.

According to Eagle Town Clerk Marilene Miller, potential candidates for town board or mayor can collect their petitions at town hall. A candidate must be a registered voter, age 18 or older, who has resided in the town of Eagle for 12 consecutive months prior to the date of the election. Candidates must collect signatures from 10 registered voters, who reside in Eagle, on their nomination petitions.

Currently the three town board seats up for election are held by trustees Kraige Kinney, Roxie Deane and Yuri Kostick. Kinney is term-limited and cannot seek re-election. Ed Woodland currently serves as Eagle Mayor.

The deadline to turn in petitions is Friday, March 2.

Three of Gypsum Town Council's seven seats are up for election this year.

Council members Tom Edwards, Gary Lebo and Kyle Hall are in those seats. As of press time, Edwards and Hall had confirmed they were seeking re-election.

Anyone interested in running for election can pick up an application at Town Hall, located next to the Gypsum Recreation Center on Valley Road. Applications are due by March 3.

Voters will mark their ballots on Tuesday, April 3, at Town Hall.

Applicants must be Gypsum residents and have been registered voters there for the past 12 months. Each applicant must also collect at least 20 petition signatures from voters registered in Gypsum.

"It's always a good idea to have more, though," said Town Clerk Danette Schlegel.

Edwards and Lebo are both in their third consecutive terms as Gypsum council members. Hall is in his first term after being elected in 2008.
