Vail library celebrates Read Across America Day

VAIL - In honor of Read Across America Day, the Vail Public Library will provide an afternoon of games, cake, and stories for families and children of all ages from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday in the Community Room of the library. The event is a celebration of Colorado Literacy Week, as well as Theodore Geisel's birthday, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, which is Friday.

Three local dignitaries - local Plum TV host Erik Williams, local entertainer Brain Hall and Assistant Vail Town Manager Pam Brandmeyer - and local fourth-grade student Oliver Chantler will each read a favorite childhood story.

"I love reading and have my entire life," Williams said. "Some of the first books that I remember reading with my family are the 'Chronicles of Narnia,' 'The Indian in the Cupboard' and 'The Education of Little Tree.' My 4-year-old daughter, Bella, and 2-year-old son, Tristan, love the stories of Mercer Mayer. I'll be bringing one of my favorites to read."

Registration is at the door. Children younger than 6 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free of charge. For more information, call 970-479-2179 or visit www.vaillibrary.com.
