Gallery owner Jim Cotter to be featured in Ornament magazine

Jim Cotter, artist and owner of J. Cotter Galleries, will be featured in the next issue of Ornament magazine. The six-page article, titled "Jim Cotter: The Unexpected and Commonplace," was written by one of Ornament's writers, Ashley Callahan. This article goes through Cotter's career as a jeweler, artist, pioneer and mentor.

Callahan begins by letting the reader in on some of Cotter's lesser-known tricks and traditions, such as making actual money trees and spending coins after he has set diamonds in them. These are both examples of some of the most common themes in his work: humor and the use of everyday materials. From his first sculpture class and the opening of his own gallery in Vail in 1970 to all the success and adventures he has been a part of up to now, he has constantly been thinking of new ideas to push the boundaries of art jewelry.

Ornament magazine is a publication that has been in print since 1974. It supports emerging and established artists in jewelry and wearable fiber who create artworks that stimulate, enrich and invigorate us today and are a profound and exquisite legacy for the years ahead.

J. Cotter Gallery was established in 1970 in Vail and continues to uphold the tradition of bringing contemporary jewelry and art to the Vail Valley. Visit J. Cotter Gallery in Vail on Wall Street and in Beaver Creek Village on Market Square.
