Turning trash into pieces of artwork

The Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability invites the community to attend the third annual Reconstruction Recycled Art Show reception on Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Alpine Arts Center in Edwards. Local artists have used recycled materials to create a diverse range of artwork. The show will continue at the Alpine Arts Center in Edwards through the end of May.

The free reception will include appetizers from The Bookworm and beverages from Crazy Mountain Brewing Company. Most of the artwork will be available for sale via silent-auction bidding, and first, second and third place winners will be awarded based on a Viewer's Choice public vote. The silent auction and public voting will close at 7 p.m., with winners to be announced at 7:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the pieces will benefit the Alpine Arts Center and the Eagle Valley Alliance for


The original concept for the Reconstruction show was inspired by one of the goals of the Eagle Valley Alliance itself: keeping usable materials out of the waste stream. The Alliance is a community organization promoting sustainable practices in recycling, energy and renewable power and green building. Alpine Arts Center is dedicated to providing a diverse visual arts education for emerging and established artists of all ages. A broad spectrum of classes, open workshops, drop-in sessions, summer programs, birthday parties, exhibits, public events and outreach programs are offered to foster the appreciation, practice and enjoyment of the visual arts throughout the Vail Valley and beyond.
