The Eagle County Commissioners approved plans to make more gravel parking at the fairgrounds on Monday.
Eagle County Public Works Director Tom Johnson said a triangular grass island near the arena will be cut away in strips 20 feet deep on each side to make room for additional gravel parking.
"As it is, every year at the fair and rodeo, groups just pull right up on the grass," Johnson said. "This way, we'll just have them park on the gravel instead of tearing up the lawn and damaging the irrigation system."
Split-rail fencing and signs will be put up around the perimeter of the parking areas to deter any more parking on the grass. Johnson aims to have the work done before this year's fair and rodeo gets under way in late July.
